Jay Swanson is working as the Reception Team Leader on the Africa Mercy which is currently docked in Lome, Togo until June 2012. The Africa Mercy is Mercy Ships’ flag hospital ship, dedicated to alleviating the suffering of Africa’s poor by providing medical aid and long-term preventative measures.
That's right, this is my blog. I never know whether to write in first person, like I'm talking to you, or in third person like someone is telling you about me. In that spirit I'll jump back and forth.
Jay Swanson was born in Pullman, WA and after graduating from EWU taught English in France, ran a small web/graphic design company, and has since joined Mercy Ships and moved to Africa. He has spent a year and a half with the organization and one year aboard the Africa Mercy.
He's also written and published a book, The Vitalis Chronicles: White Shores, since arriving in Africa - and the sequel is on it's way. If you'd like to know more, or have questions, feel free to email Jay.
